Dorrine Sadilek was born and raised in Sacramento, California and has lived in various locations in California before moving to Hawaii in 1972. She and her husband spent 13 years in Hawaii, and it was there that she went to the University of Hawaii to get her nursing degree. This was a mid-life career change, and she graduated and got her nursing license when she was 46.
She managed to take a few art classes now and then, but she wasn’t able to devote the time needed to improve her skills. She and her husband of 57 years have lived in Carson City since 1988. Dorrine came to Carson City to work for the Department of Prisons as a correctional nurse and retired in 1999 after 10 years of service. With retirement she was able to pursue her passion for painting.
Now that she has the time to devote to painting, she is able to see a great deal of improvement. When she retired she also joined the Nevada Artists Association and served three years as president and gallery director. Becoming active in the Association has resulted in many friendships that she cherishes. She credits learning how to present her art to being active in the Nevada Artists Association, and she regularly shows her work in their gallery as well as being a full member at the East Fork Gallery in Garnerville.
Dorrine has explored various media and improved her skills by taking many workshops and just being around other artists. Although she works mainly in watercolor she loves working in pastel after taking a workshop with Luverne Lighfoot. A few years ago she began dabbling in collage, and her style has developed into a time consuming and rewarding endeavor.
