Nancy Clarke

Her love of art began with grade school art projects, continued through high school classes and on to majoring in art at the University of Illinois. Nancy did drawings, composition, sculpture and graphic arts, but mostly paints. She felt limited in what she could paint. She left to marry and create a family, while also taking classes at the local colleges and doing some paintings at home. In 1994, she again took painting at the California Art Institute in Westlake Village, Ca. There she learned the importance of value, color and technique from two excellent teachers, Martha Saudek and Myrna, who opened the proverbial doors for her. She was finally able to paint any scene she desired.

In 1995 Nancy entered her first juried show and one of her paintings was selected for the cover of the Westlake Village Art Guild’s ’96 calendar A California Canvas , and she has had more paintings in subsequent calendars. In 1996 Nancy started doing festival shows at Mammoth Lakes Labor Day Festival, La Quinta Art Festival, Art Walk Thousand Oaks, Fine Art Santa Barbara in the Gardens, Los Altos Art Show, Mountain Artists Rendevous in Jackson Hole, Wy, Marin Art Show in San Rafael, Ca and the Tahoe Art Project Show in South Lake Tahoe. She has created over 260 painting, with over 155 of her original oils sold to friends and collectors. She continues to paint fewer, quality paintings, sometimes for the venue.

Locally, Nancy shows her work at East Fork Gallery, Brewery Arts Center Gallery in Carson City, Markleeville art and Soul, Barton Memorial Hospital and Snowflake Gallery in South Lake Tahoe. She participates often in the Valhalla Arts and Music Festival at the Tallac Historic Site in South Lake Tahoe. Her work has been shown in numerous prestigious galleries including Yosemite Museum Gallery, The Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, CA, the Hart Park Gallery in Santa Clarita to name only a few.

Nancy is active in the local art groups and a frequent award winner in shows. Her beautiful landscapes of the area grace numerous homes and businesses.
