Linda Townsend
(watercolor and pastel artist)

Linda Townsend was born and grew up in New York state.  She graduated from the State University of New York at New Paltz with a major in art education.  Linda subsequently attended the School for American Craftsmen at Rochester Institute of Technology, majoring in ceramic design.  Later she received a Masters Degree in Education from Pepperdine University in California.  Her teaching career began on Long Island, teaching art at Smithtown Junior High.

In 1963 she moved to California and continued her teaching career in Southern California.  After thirty years of teaching art on the high school level, Linda retired in 1993 from the Torrance Unified School District.  In 1994, she and her husband moved to Minden, NV.  She now devotes more time to her art work.  Her paintings and murals grace many homes and businesses in Southern California, as well as in the Carson Valley area.

Linda is currently a member of the Carson Valley Art Association, the Nevada Artists Association, the Sierra Watercolor Association, and the Sierra Pastel Association.  Many of her paintings can be seen at East Fork Gallery, and the Brewery Arts Center Gallery in Carson City.  Throughout her career, Linda has received many awards for her paintings.  During the past years, out of a large display of paintings, the Town of Minden, the Record-Courier newspaper, and the Western Nevada College have selected her work to hang permanently in their offices.

Over the years, Linda has studied painting with Richard McDaniels, Richard McKinley, Gerald Brommer, Thomas Lynch, and the late Maggie Price.
